Protest this political hypocrisy and demand equal treatment to other Canadians

Nova Scotia stands
alone in the dark!

Nova Scotia is now the only province that doesn't provide the most effective treatment for the leading cause of adult-onset vision loss

If you get macular degeneration, an important vision problem, in the rest of Canada, you get treatment.

If you get macular degeneration in Nova Scotia, you have three choices:

1

Go Blind

2

Go Bankrupt

3

Go away

Protest this political hypocrisy and demand equal treatment to other Canadians

The NS government must agree to reimburse Lucentis for people with the wet form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Write to Health Minister, Maureen MacDonald, to Premier Darrell Dexter and your MLA to protest against this hypocrisy and to demand equal treatment to other Canadians for Nova Scotians with wet AMD.

The Canadian Council of the Blind believes that patients in Nova Scotia with wet age-related macular degeneration should have access to Lucentis, the only treatment that can reverse vision loss in age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of adult-onset vision loss.

Unfortunately, while other Canadians can see, Nova Scotians are left to go blind by their provincial NDP government – the same people who in opposition demanded the action they are now refusing. As a result, the NDP government has made Nova Scotia the ONLY province in Canada that does not pay for Lucentis.

This despite:

  • The NDP's own calls, while in opposition just 18 months ago, that the previous government do what they have now refused to do and pay for Lucentis.

  • All the other Canadian provinces and territories are reimbursing Lucentis through their public drug plan.

  • The costs to the health and social services system to treat blindness far outweigh the costs of this treatment, the first that can prevent blindness and restore lost vision to many with the disease.
